BYD Tang L declared with EV and PHEV variants

On January 10, the BYD Tang L flagship SUV was declared by the Chinese MIIT, showing EV and PHEV variants. The official unveil is expected to occur on January 17.

Earlier, BYD released the teaser images as well as the design sketch of the Tang L. The EV is designed based on BYDโ€™s e-Platform 3.0, while the PHEV is equipped with BYDโ€™s DM 5.0 PHEV technology.

A trim with a drone docking station on the roof was also declared. The length, width, and height of the standard trims are 5040/1996/1760 mm, with a 2950 mm wheelbase. The height including the drone docking station is 1970 mm.

Additionally, the EV curb weight range is 2675 kg to 2967 kg. The towing capacity is 2000 kg.

Two pure electric trims were shown, namely:

  • a 500 kW (671 hp) permanent magnet synchronous motor (model TZ210XYR) manufactured by BYD
  • a 230 kW (308 hp) front AC asynchronous motor (model YS230XYD) and a 580 kW (778 hp) rear permanent magnet synchronous motor (model TZ210XYW), both manufactured by BYD

The battery is also supplied by BYD.

The plug-in hybrid variants are equipped with a 115 kW (154 hp) 1.5T engine as well as either a single electric motor or dual motors, with a maximum power of 200 kW (268 hp) and 400 kW (536 hp), respectively. The pure electric ranges are 135 km, 150 km, and 165 km.

Additionally, the panoramic sunroof comes as standard with an optional front bumper, front trims in different colors, rear bumper trims, luggage rack, roof lidar, rear camera, 20-inch/21-inch rim shapes, and wheel eyebrows.

Furthermore, based on the interior spy photos, there is a large floating central control screen, a D-shaped steering wheel, and an instrumental panel. On the center console is a mobile phone wireless charging panel and cup holders. The interior can seat seven people.
