Chinese regulator revealed core specs of the new Tesla Model Y

The new Tesla Model Y Juniper applied for a sales license in China, revealing core specs. The car entered the market on January 10, priced between 263,500 – 303,500 yuan (35,950 – 41,400 USD).

Chinese regulator revealed live photos of the new Tesla Model Y. It adopts thin LED running lights in the front end and headlights integrated into the front bumper. From the back, the car has a thick taillight unit and a ducktail spoiler. The Tesla Model Y in MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) images is finished in two body colors: white and gray.

The badge on the rear end of the car says “特斯拉Model Y” (Tesla Model Y) and, surprisingly, “特斯拉Model Y+” (Tesla Model Y+). It seems that the AWD Performance variant of the Model Y Juniper can be called Model Y+ in China.

Tesla Model Y Juniper specs

The new Tesla Model Y nicknamed “Juniper” boasts dimensions of 4797/1920/1624 mm with a wheelbase of 2890 mm. It is 47 mm longer and 1 mm narrower than its predecessor. The Juniper’s front and rear tracks are equal at 1636 mm. Its front and rear overhangs are 896 mm and 1,011 mm, respectively. The car’s approach and departure angles reach 16 and 18 degrees.

The new Tesla Model Y rides on 255/45 R19 or 255/40 R20 wheels. Inside, this electric SUV has five seats. The curb weight of the Tesla Model Y Juniper lies in the 1,921 – 1,992 kg range, depending on the powertrain variant. The car’s gross weight is 2,432 –  2,503 kg. According to the MIIT announcement, the new Model Y offers optional tinted rear windows.

The Tesla Model Y RWD adopts the 3D6 electric motor for 220 kW (295 hp). It is paired with the CATL’s LFP battery pack for 62.5 kWh. The CLTC range of this variant is 593 km, up 39 km, compared to the older model. The AWD variant of the Juniper adopts 3D3 and 3D7 e-motors for 137 kW (184 hp) and 194 kW (260 hp), respectively. The combined power output of the system is 331 kW (444 hp). The car has a CATL’s ternary NMC battery for 719 km.

The new Tesla Model Y adopts the ESP10 system from the Bosch Suzhou branch. The car is also equipped with an on-board recording system EDR.

The Tesla Model Y Juniper has two trim levels and a price range of 263,500 – 303,500 yuan (35,950 – 41,400 USD) in China. It is 13,600 yuan (1,855 USD) more expensive, than its predecessor.
