Wuling Zhiguang EV electric combi started pre-sales in China with a price range of 47,800 β 50,800 yuan (6,520 β 6,930 USD). It is widely known as Wulingβs kei car. However, it is actually bigger than a kei car. Wuling calls this vehicle a βmulti-function tool carβ as it has 20 expandable storage areas.
Wuling Zhiguang EV is the latest product from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. According to the brandβs officials, it is aimed at both passenger and commercial car markets as the car is highly versatile. It is a combi with rear sliding doors and up to 1,117 liters of trunk space (with second-row seats folded). It has finally begun pre-sales in China.
Wuling Zhiguang EV specs
The Wuling Zhiguang EVβs exterior styling has Japanese kei car vibes. However, the Chinese EV is bigger than a regular kei car. Its dimensions are 3685/1530/1750 mm with a wheelbase of 2600 mm. Its rear doors can open up to 595 mm. And the tailgate can open up to 90 degrees. Wuling officials underlined that the height of the tailgate is 569 mm. It makes loading and unloading easier.
Inside, the Zhiguang EV keeps it simple with a two-spoke round steering wheel without buttons, a small instrument panel screen, physical AC controls, a handbrake, and a rotary gear shifter. The carβs cabin has four seats with a 2+2 layout. However, the Wuling Zhiguang EVβs main benefit is flexibility. This vehicle has 20 M6 standard threaded mounting holes, suitable for the installation of storage compartments and placement racks.
The Wuling Zhiguang EVβs trunk capacity reaches 527 liters. With the rear bench folded, the trunk space increases to 1,117 liters. It is a great number for a vehicle with a length of 3.6 meters. In addition, the Zhiguang EV has luggage racks on the roof. As the icing on the cake, the Zhiguang EV owners can mount various accessories on the dashboard, including folding tables, cup holders, and mobile phone holders. All in all, this vehicle has a great practicality.
Wuling Zhiguang EV powertrain
However, the powertrain of the car is quite basic. The Zhiguang EV has a 30-kW (40 hp) electric motor on the rear axle powered by a 17.6-kWh LFP battery pack. The carβs range reaches 201 km under CLTC conditions. A slow charging port supports 220V AC external discharge up to a maximum of 3.3 KW. A 12V DC power interface can support up to 120W discharge power.
In the future, Wuling will launch the Zhiguang EV variant that supports the CATLβs battery swap technology. It will adopt a 42-kWh battery pack.
