In 2024, China’s domestic passenger car sales volume was 22.608 million units, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%. Specifically, the sales volume of Chinese brand passenger vehicles was 17.97 million units, a year-on-year increase of 23.1%. The sales volume of domestically produced high-end brand passenger vehicles was 4.738 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%.

The BYD Qin Plus ranked first with 480,025 units sold for the entire year, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%, that’s an average monthly sales of 40,000 units; of which 304,388 units were sold for the PHEV variant and 175,637 units for the EV variant. Besides being the best-selling sedan in 2024, the BYD Qin Plus is also the overall second best-selling vehicle in China, just behind the Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla Model Y topped the list with a sales volume of 480,309 units in China. Followed closely behind was the BYD Song Plus, with sales of 418,474 units. The Aito M7 and Li L6 also made it into the top ten. As Aito’s first model on the top 10 list, the M7 sold 193,342 units.

The 2024 domestic MPV retail sales in China were 1.088 million units, a slight increase of 0.4% year-on-year, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). In particular, the BYD Denza D9 has been the MPV sales champion for two consecutive years.
