The Ford F-Series has been Canada’s bestselling vehicle for 59 consecutive years because it is tough enough to get the job done. This has made it a staple on job sites and farms. Now, more Canadians are opting for pickup trucks and SUVs as their daily rides and they are drawn to the F-150 for its versatility, comfort, features and performance.

As more drivers consider electric vehicles, the Ford F-150 Lightning is an obvious choice, making a compelling case that an all-electric pickup can easily match the legendary reputation of the Ford F-150. And, for Canadians looking to make the switch to an electric vehicle, Ford is making it easy with innovative ownership and charging solutions through the Ford Power Promise.

Not only does the F-150 Lightning offer owners the functionality of a traditional pickup, but it also comes with unique features that only an electric vehicle can provide.

One such feature is Pro Power Onboard, which transforms the F-150 Lightning into a power source. Every F-150 Lightning comes standard with at least 2.4 kilowatts of power, with up to 9.6 kilowatts exclusively to F-150 Lightning. When equipped with 9.6 kilowatts of power, Pro Power Onboard customers have access to 11 outlets, and their pickup truck functions as a mobile generator – powering drills, saws and other equipment at work sites and providing electricity at campsites for mini-fridges, lights, portable speakers, electronic devices and more.

“When it comes to power, the F-150 Lightning is also capable of vehicle-to-vehicle charging,” says Paul Roy, general manager Model e and integrated services at Ford of Canada. “So, F-150 Lightnings equipped with Pro Power Onboard can ‘share’ range with other electric vehicle owners, allowing them to charge a friend’s vehicle during an outage or top off an electric vehicle battery for a neighbour.”

The F-150 Lightning is packed with high-tech features to make driving more comfortable. Available BlueCruise is a hands-free highway driving system. With the push of a button, BlueCruise will manage the steering, braking and accelerating for the driver. Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with BlueCruise hardware use radar and sensors surrounding the vehicle to read lane markings on the road and to help sense other vehicles. BlueCruise uses pre-mapped designated highways called Blue Zones to indicate to the system that it can engage. Although drivers still must keep their eyes on the road, BlueCruise helps take the stress out of their commute. BlueCruise was rated as the top active driving assistance system on the market by Consumer Reports.

Additionally, the F-150 Lightning features a large touchscreen with SYNC 4A technology, offering an intuitive user experience and connectivity to vehicle systems, apps and music. It also supports over-the-air software updates, ensuring your F-150 Lightning always has the latest updates.

Electric vehicle range has improved vastly in recent years and the F-150 Lightning offers up to 515 kilometres on a single charge. When charging on the road, Ford makes it easy with access to the Blue Oval Charge Network (BOCN), the largest integrated charging network in North America, including access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers. The BOCN automatically searches for chargers across various networks, and adds charging stops to your route via the Connected Navigation in the vehicle. With Plug and Pay, payment is handled easily through the FordPass app.

For at-home charging, the Ford Power Promise offers customers a complimentary home charger and standard installation for those who purchase or lease an eligible Ford-150 Lightning. Installation is done by RocketEV Charging Solutions, a Canadian company with a national network of dedicated experts. (In Quebec, residents who purchase or lease an eligible new Ford electric vehicle are eligible to purchase a Ford home charger and standard installation bundle for $2,450 plus tax – estimated retail value of $3,600 – and a special finance offer.)

Available in five trims, the F-150 Lightning starts at $62,890 with the PRO trim. And because it’s an F-150, the Lightning is rugged and ready to work. Its dual-motor setup delivers up to 580 horsepower and 775 lb.-ft. of almost instant torque. As for towing capacity, it can handle up to 10,000 pounds.

It’s also built with Canada’s unforgiving winters in mind. “The F-150 Lightning has been put through its paces in minus 30-degree temperatures to evaluate the all-electric powertrain and how it adjusts power delivery to the wheels on low-traction surfaces like snow and ice in extremely cold temperatures,” says Roy.

As for everyday driving, the F-150 Lightning has spacious seating for five, plus extra features for anyone who spends a lot of time in their truck. For example, an available Interior Work Surface is handy when using a laptop or for setting down lunch.

Another standout is the front trunk, or “frunk.” Without a large gas-powered engine, the F-150 Lightning has a generous 400 litres of lockable and watertight storage space under the hood that can hold up to 180 kg. It’s perfect for carrying groceries or securing essential gear when heading to the cottage.

Whether it’s for everyday driving or heavy hauling, Roy explains, “the F-150 Lightning is built Ford tough, just like the name suggests, and builds on 59 years of Ford truck leadership in Canada.”
